These are easy cookies your mother will adore! Makes 5 dozen.
- 1 ½ cups of softened butter
- 2 cups white sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- Cream together butter and sugar in a big bowl until smooth. Beat in the eggs and vanilla. Now stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cover and chill dough for at least one hour.
- Preheat oven to 200 degrees C. Roll out dough on a floured surface 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters of your choice. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
- Bake for 6 to 8 minutes in a preheated oven. Cookies are usually done when edges appear golden. Cool completely before decorating.
