So there you have it! It’s all in the research my dear friends… getting up from your desk or computer for a couple of minutes every hour can boost your health and reverse adverse health effects from long periods of inactivity!  

 

Research findings, published in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, noted that even small changes in our activity level can have a great impact on our health. The study utilized data from 3,200+ participants in the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. These individuals wore devices to measure the intensity of their physical activity and were followed for three years.

 

The results revealed that standing compared to sitting didn’t offset health risks, however, short amounts of physical activity, such as cleaning or gardening, were acknowledged as life boosting for those who spend most of their day sedentary. The study revealed that 2 minutes of light activity every hour, rather than sitting, lowers the risk of early death by 33%.

 

Think of it as putting money in the bank… every little bit adds up in the end. However, do not think that 2 minutes of activity each hour is enough overall. You surely should be much more physically active than that and incorporate several physical activities into your lifestyle. Moderate exercise is the only way to truly strengthen your heart and benefit your overall health status in the end.
