For centuries, ancient Mayan, Aztec, and Incan beauties knew the avocado as a wonderful beauty aid, rich in beneficial oils that rejuvenate the skin, reduce eye puffiness, heal frizzled hair, and much, much more! Next time you are out shopping, grab a few extra for your personal beauty use…
1. Puffy Eye Treatment
Who needs cucumbers when you can have avocados! Just slice a peeled avocado half into quarter-inch crescent-shapes. Lie down with a few slices under each eye and rest for around 20 minutes. The results are so unbelievable you won’t believe your eyes!
2. Facial Mask
If you suffer from dry skin, forget about those expensive creams and masks, just grab half an avocado, mash it, and spread it evenly on your clean face. Allow to remain for 15 minutes and then rinse off with warm water. This has got to be the simplest facial mask ever.
3. Hair Treatment
During the harsh winter months, hair tends to get a bit drier and lose some shine. In a small bowl, mash and combine one avocado, one egg yolk, and half a teaspoon of olive oil. Apply this combo to your hair and leave it for 30 minutes or longer, then shampoo and condition as usual. Result? Amazingly silky, shiny, soft hair!
4. Soft, Smooth Hands
Those of us who don’t need some softening up of the hands are few indeed! This gentle exfoliating scrub will make your hands noticeably softer and smoother rendering avocado your new best friend. In a small bowl combine a quarter of a peeled avocado, one egg white, two tablespoons of oatmeal and one teaspoon of lemon juice. All you need to do is apply to your hands and leave it on for 20 minutes; then rinse in warm water and pat dry.
Turns out that we may well have been disposing of a valuable piece of the avocado: the peel. The inside of the peel can be used as an oil-rich moisturizer. Just lightly apply the inside of the peel to your clean face, using gentle upward strokes. You can leave the oil on your face all night or rinse after 15 minutes. It makes a great base for your foundation or powder!
6. Cuticle Cream
Avocados have a high fat content, and when combined with oil they transform into a rich natural cream. Mash a quarter of an avocado and mix with one teaspoon olive oil. Massage into your cuticles and wait 20 minutes. Rinse off with warm water.
The natural craze is a trend that has boomed in the last decade or so, but the truth is that for many centuries, people from all civilizations have been using natural recipes to feel and look good. Getting in touch with nature and getting back to nature with great beauty products from your kitchen is nothing new, only something we need to remind ourselves to do every now and again.
