I know… one of your New Year’s resolutions was to kick your ass into shape. Have you signed up for the gym yet? Did you get a new pair of trainers to get into the workout mood? How about signing up for that yoga class you have always wanted to take? Well if you need some worthy inspiration, this 98 year old woman will definitely put your mind on the right track.
Täo Porchon-Lynch has always led an interesting life. Born in India, she moved to London in 1940, danced for soldiers in Europe, and then headed to good old Hollywood. She has walked along side Mahatma Gandhi, Marilyn Monroe and the Dalai Lama... just to name a few icons over the years.
Her passion for life is so contagious that she has inspired people all over the world to look at their lives, and age, with a fresh and different attitude. She has been teaching yoga for over 75 years! Her level of dedication and flexibility puts most of us to shame!
At the age of 8 while still living in India, she noticed some boys on the beach one day contorting their bodies in odd positions.
“I went to my aunt and said, ‘Can they let me be part of it?’ And she said: ‘That isn’t a game, it is yoga and it’s not for girls. It’s not ladylike.’ So I started doing it,” Porchon-Lynch told the New York Times.
Her lifestyle habits are absolutely inspiring:
- She wakes up at 5am every day to start her class…
- Her diet is a vegetarian one and enjoys lobster and shrimp every so often…
- She believes wine is good for the blood (yippee)…
- She started ballroom dancing at 90 years of age and has won numerous competitions!
- Her 3 hip replacements have not slowed her down at all!
So what is your excuse today for not getting out there and living your best life? As Täo so eloquently puts it: Wake up every day and say to yourself that this is going to be the best day of my life!
Now THAT is what you call inspirational!
