Think back carefully. Do you remember when you bought that favorite sports bra of yours? You know, the one that you wear day in and day out at the gym? Well if you purchased it more than a year ago, you are already guilty as charged. Your indispensable sporting accessory should NOT be worn for more than a year (and possibly for only 6 months) depending on how often you have worn the sucker to the gym.
So just when you thought your bra knowledge was completely up to par, we throw you a curve ball and put your mind in a whirlwind! As a starter, if you are a regular exerciser (and we are hoping you are!) you should actually have around 3 good sports bras for rotation purposes! This is a great way to keep them in their best condition for as long as possible. But the one year rule still counts.
Next, another key to getting the best out of your beloved sports bra is to simply take good care of it. With all of the sweating (and tugging’n pulling) it endures, it’s no wonder it only last for up to one year max! And please pay attention to the important signs that tell you it is time to say adios before the one-year marker such as stretched out straps, bands that have lost their elasticity, faded tags, and worse of all, a sweaty or musty odor that the best of detergents can’t get rid of!
So how can you make your sports bra last until its due date?
- Wash your sports bra in cold water with only a mild detergent.
- Hang on a line to dry or lay flat on a towel.
- Only put it in the dryer if absolutely necessary and use the cold tumble cycle.
