How to Keep Your Mood on Track When Calorie Counting

You have finally decided to start a healthy diet plan because - let’s face it – your love handles are not looking all that lovely AND it’s the right thing to do for the sake of your good health! It’s not a diet; it’s a healthier lifestyle all around. However… as you try to count those calories and pay avid attention to what you put on your plate, you seem to be a little bit crabby. We’ve all been there!


In order to keep up your mental strength and stick to a healthy eating plan, you must work the biggest muscle of your body first: your brain! You need to practice self-control, and with time, your mood swings will dissipate.


Here are some valuable tips to keep up your determination – and your good mood - at the beginning of a new and healthy eating plan:


1. Stick to a routine

Abiding by a certain routine will keep your mind at ease. No need to panic as to what you are going to eat for lunch today. If you plan out a steady plan, you will avoid plenty of stress.


2. Don’t take on too much

When beginning a diet plan - and your nerves are a little on edge - you should try to avoid too many unnecessary stressful situations. Keep yourself calm, cool, and collected as much as possible to help you with your new and healthy eating plan.


3. Set the stage

If you have a junk drawer full of chips and chocolate screaming out at you each and every day, you are bound to get cranky and tempted. Don’t bring home what you don’t want to put in your mouth… period.


4. Skip the tempting aisle

Make your life a little bit easier and completely skip the treats section at your supermarket. Walking down to take a glimpse at all the goodies will surely make you grumpy… and tempted.


5. Take your lunch to work

This will definitely help you to remain on a controlled eating plan. Picking up a sandwich or fast food at lunchtime will work against all your efforts and basically put you in a bad mood.


6. Control situations around you

If you are having a bad day, avoid conflict with others which will only make you feel worse. Stressful situations may push you to snack. Find a quiet area and chill if you must.
