Women look forward to uncovering the secret as to whether a man is searching for a serious relationship or not. Little do our female friends know that they simply have to look into his eyes to discover the answer. A new study has confirmed that men who are in search of a serious relationship (or even marriage) will direct most of their attention on a woman’s face and her eyes.
Scientists have discovered that an easy test can determine a male’s intentions; apparently, the answer is all in the eyes. If a man maintains eye contact for long periods of time, this could mean that he sees the lady as a potential life partner. However, if his look wanders away frequently from the face to the body, it is a fling that is in his mind.
The £60,000 study found that bodies were half as important and faces were significantly more crucial if men were seeking a permanent and stable partner.
“If you are looking for long-term relationships, you are looking for a friendly, humorous, co-operative pleasant partner - information we all get from faces,” said Psychologist Dr. Anthony Little of Stirling University. He also added that when it comes to short-term relationships, men are not so concerned about if she has a nice-looking face; the body is much more central.
Guided by Dr. Tom Currie at Tokyo University, the study included 260 participants (comprised of men and women) and involved the evaluation of attractiveness of people based on photos shown to them. First they were exposed to pictures of the opposite sex’s face or body alone; then they were asked to state if they would consider that individual ideal for a long-term commitment or just for one night stand. The next step involved the participants rating a person’s charm through a photo of the face and another of the body.
Whilst no difference was observed in women’s responses, men rated body over face when having a fling in mind.
“When looking for a long-term relationship, only 20 per cent of men gave higher scores to pictures of the female models’ bodies than they did to the images of their faces. However, when asked to rate them for a short-term affair, 40 per cent ranked the pictures of their bodies higher than those of their faces,” said Dr. Tom Currie.
So...if you ever find yourself in a position where you have no idea what a man really wants from you, a deep look into his eyes can be enough to get the answer you need. If the guy’s gaze is focused on your face, especially your eyes, you can be sure that you won’t be wasting your precious time!
